Program Overview
Cuba is currently undergoing one of the most exciting transitions any country has undergone since the fall of the Iron Curtain. Once one of the purest communist countries with virtually all industries nationalized, Cuba is quickly adapting a Chinese type model of a large state apparatus complimented by small private industry. The goal of the course is to witness this historical transition at an important midway point. With US tourists finally returning to Cuba and commercial flights from NYC to Havana expected to begin in November 2016, change will accelerate expontentially. This program will include numerous opportunities for students to witness and interact with local leaders and some of the drivers behind this conversation.

Program Dates: March 11-18, 2017

Program Fee: $3,500

Course Offered:

ECON 4415 Economics in Transition in Cuba - Experience the people, culture, and institutions of a neighboring economy at the very start of its opening up to the West. Led by Dr. Patrick Gourley, a world traveller and environmental economist, this is a fantastic chance to witness how institutions shape opportunity as Cuba enters a period of rapid transition.
